A vehicle import approval is required for each and every vehicle imported to Australia. The following provides an outline of the various types of import approval options available. Evo compliance have a vast amount of experience dealing with all of these import options and can take care of any documentation and submissions required.

NEW FULL VOLUME AND LOW VOLUME (Test and Evaluation Vehicles)

This scheme allows for the importation of vehicles for testing to meet certification standards and evaluation of performance in Australian conditions. As a part of our New Full and Low Volume Compliance Services, we arrange the Test and Evaluation Vehicle Import approval on your behalf. Please refer to the Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle (SEVS) Register for eligible Low Volume vehicles. If your vehicle is not listed, please contact us to arrange registration.

NEW VEHICLES (INCLUDING LARGE TRAILERS) FOR USE ON ROAD OPTION

This option allows for the importation of road vehicles in either low or full volume including road trailers that weigh more than 4.5 tonnes Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM).

REGISTERED AUTOMOTIVE WORKSHOP SCHEME

This scheme allows for the importation and supply to the market of used vehicles. Approved Registered Automotive Workshops (RAWs) import, modify and plate used vehicles in accordance with concessional standards. We can take care of these approvals together with one of our client RAWs Workshops. Please refer to the Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle (SEVS) Register for eligible vehicles. VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BEFORE 1989

The Vehicles Manufactured before 1989 Option allows for the importation of road vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1989. This option is designed to cater for the importation of older enthusiast, classic or historic vehicles. The option permits the importation of vehicles which do not comply with current Australian vehicle standards, and are therefore outside normal certification arrangements. However state and territory registration requirements will generally require that the vehicles comply with the standards that applied at the date the vehicle was originally manufactured. EVO Compliance has a qualified Vehicle Safety Compliance Certification Scheme (VSCCS) certifier who can certify the imported vehicle for you including any necessary modifications and Left Hand Drive to Right Hand Drive conversions.

PERSONAL IMPORT

The Personal Import Option allows migrants settling in Australia, and expatriate Australian citizens returning permanently to Australia after a long period overseas, to bring their personal vehicle, owned for the qualifying 12 month period, with them. Evo compliance can take care of any documentation and submissions required on your behalf in order to import your personnel vehicle from overseas.

AUSTRALIAN PLATED VEHICLES OPTION

The Australian Plated Vehicles option covers road vehicles originally sourced within Australia but subsequently exported to be re-imported. For example, the vehicle may have accompanied the owner on an overseas holiday or tour.

SMALL ROAD TRAILERS OPTION

This scheme allows for the importation of road trailers that have an Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) not more than 4.5 tonnes.

RACE AND RALLY AND SUPPORT VEHICLES OPTION

This Option allows for the importation of vehicles intended to be used for road vehicles rallies and closed circuit road vehicle racing and vehicles designed to support road vehicle racing or rallying.

LETTER OF COMPLIANCE OPTION

This option allows for the importation of vehicles which complied with the applicable Australian Design Rules (ADRs) at the time the vehicle was originally supplied to the market overseas.

SPECIAL PURPOSE VEHICLES OPTION

This option allows for the importation of special purpose vehicles including city utility vehicles (fire tenders, garbage trucks, street sweepers), mobile cranes, mobile drilling rigs, and mobile plant and equipment.

EXHIBITION VEHICLES OPTION

This option allows for the importation of motor vehicles intended to be used primarily for exhibition purposes. It is also possible to import exhibition vehicles permanently.

NON-ROAD VEHICLES OPTION

A ‘non-road vehicle’ (often referred to as ‘non-transport equipment’ and/or ‘off-road vehicles’) refers to a vehicle is not principally designed for this purpose and/or is not permitted to be driven on public roads.

VEHICLES IN TRANSIT OPTION

This option allows the importation of vehicles for the purpose of having modifications, repair or other work performed on the vehicle. The vehicle is to be re-exported without being used as transport in Australia.

DISCRETIONARY APPROVALS

Special vehicles not covered under other options may be approved with discretion in exceptional circumstances, usually with conditions on the approval.
